Job description
Position summary
This role supports the day-to-day planning, growth, and administration of the assigned UCLA athletics program. The assistant coach will contribute to practice design, competition preparation, recruiting efforts, administrative coordination, and other special assignments. The position also requires strong alignment with the rules, procedures, and standards of the University of California system, UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the relevant conference, and the NCAA.

Responsibilities
- Help plan and organize practice sessions and training activities.
- Assist with game and competition preparation.
- Support recruiting, athlete development, and training of high-level collegiate athletes.
- Handle administrative duties and assigned special projects.
- Work in accordance with University of California, UCLA DIA, conference, and NCAA policies and guidelines.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility, ethical conduct, and compliance with university expectations.
Qualifications
- Preferred: 3–5 years of coaching experience at the Division I level.
- Required: Experience managing budgets and fiscal matters.
- Required: Proven ability to recruit, develop, and train elite collegiate athletes.
- Required: Strong communication skills for effective interaction with student-athletes, administrators, colleagues, and the public.
- Required: Clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the athletic program.
- Required: Solid understanding of Division I coaching duties and the ability to communicate well with student-athletes.
- Required: Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and a track record of compliance.
- Required: Willingness to follow UCLA policies on fiscal responsibility, ethics, and compliance.
Education, licenses, and certifications
Preferred: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Required: Current certification in first aid, CPR, and AED use. Proof of certification must be submitted within 30 days of hire; until then, duties will be limited.
Employment conditions
- Continued employment depends on a satisfactory background check.
- A Live Scan background check must be completed before the start date.
- This role is a mandatory reporter under CANRA, and the employee must sign the required child abuse reporting acknowledgement.
- Travel may be required for team competitions and related activities, up to 10% of the time.

Compensation
UCLA offers a full pay range for this job. The final salary depends on budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other business needs. Salaries at the top of the range are uncommon. Benefits begin on day one, and total compensation can be estimated using the university's compensation tools.
