Job description
About the role
The Queensland Police Service operates detention facilities throughout Queensland for people held in police custody. This includes individuals who have been refused bail, those waiting for an initial or later court appearance, and prisoners who are either on remand or serving a sentence until transfer to a youth detention centre or correctional facility.
Key accountabilities
- Carry out watchhouse duties connected to the supervision, administration, and monitoring of detainees and visitors.
- Compile, update, and safeguard prisoner files and related records.
- Use electronic surveillance and movement control systems, following established procedures.
- Keep watchhouse documentation accurate and aligned with Queensland Police Service policy and process.
- Support the intake and processing of people taken into custody in accordance with QPS procedures.
- Oversee prisoners and support their welfare, comfort, and security needs.
- Record prisoner health needs, monitor medical concerns, and arrange suitable medical support when required.
- Assist senior officers with matters affecting the overall running of the watchhouse.
Role requirements
Applicants must hold an Open C class driver licence.
Additional information
This position requires wearing the Assistant Watchhouse Officer uniform and following the Queensland Police Service dress and appearance standards. The role is rostered across a 24-hour, 7-day shift cycle.
