Job description
About KPMG
KPMG is a globally recognised professional services firm known for helping organisations tackle complex challenges, navigate change, improve resilience and grow with confidence. The firm is driven by a purpose to build trust and enable positive change for clients, employees and communities.
The consulting environment is energetic and varied, with opportunities to work on demanding assignments for prominent organisations across multiple sectors. As part of the consulting function, you will work in a team that delivers practical insights and forward-looking solutions to help clients address business problems and support growth. You will collaborate with experienced professionals in a culture that values learning and ongoing development.
The opportunity
- Join the Wellington consulting team and work closely with major government agencies, gaining a broad view of the key issues clients are facing in the current operating environment.
- Work alongside colleagues across the division, expand your capability, and contribute your existing strengths in a fast-moving, high-energy workplace.
- Support boards and management in building governance, risk and control arrangements that align with organisational strategy and operations.
What you will do
- Carry out reviews of high-profile projects across a range of New Zealand sectors, with an emphasis on risk management, process assessment and internal controls.
- Lead the planning, delivery and completion of internal audit and risk consulting engagements.
- Work with data to identify trends, patterns and emerging risk areas in business processes.
- Develop clear, practical recommendations that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of systems, operations and business processes.
- Work with technical specialists to design risk and control solutions that fit the specific need.
- Support the growth of junior team members by reviewing their work, supervising them and giving timely, specific feedback.
- Contribute to business development by spotting opportunities, pursuing leads, preparing thought leadership content, leading client proposals and helping build team capability.
- Help strengthen KPMG’s reputation through high-quality output, sound judgement, technical expertise and innovative thinking.
What you will bring
- Prior experience in risk, assurance or internal audit across a range of industries; experience in professional services, government or the wider public sector is preferred but not essential.
- The ability to assess information quickly and solve problems using practical, creative and innovative approaches.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including advanced report writing, plus capabilities in planning, project delivery, relationship management, networking and influencing.
- A positive, adaptable mindset and a willingness to take on new challenges and development opportunities.
- Comfort with ambiguity, and the confidence to close knowledge gaps by asking questions, working with others and researching technical and contractual documents.

This recruitment process is being handled directly by KPMG’s Talent Acquisition team. Agency support will only be requested from preferred partners if needed.
