Job Overview

The Assistant Manager in Field Quality Assurance plays a critical role in maintaining and improving the quality and integrity of mechanical systems and components. The role involves coordinating inspections, performing tests, overseeing surveys of boiler and pressure parts, managing welder qualifications, and developing quality assurance plans. Additionally, the person will lead quality training initiatives to uphold craftsmanship and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and carry out site inspections with O&M engineers, adhering to quality procedures, codes, and standards.
• Conduct thorough inspections of BTG, BOP, material pre-delivery inspections (PDI), boilers, pressure parts, welding, turbines, and auxiliaries.
• Identify and manage Boiler Tube Leakage repair work using NDT and other quality methods.
• Perform visual and non-destructive tests including DPT, MPT, UT, RT to ensure equipment integrity.
• Inspect and survey thickness of boiler pressure parts, coal bunkers, APH, valves, and rotary components.
• Facilitate PDI inspections at vendor sites and issue Material Dispatch Claims Certification (MDCC).
• Support third-party inspections and certification of safety and equipment health.
• Conduct welder qualification tests for IBR and non-IBR welders and maintain detailed records.
• Prepare, review, and approve quality-related documents including materials, QAPs, FQPs, WPS, PQR, and WPQ.
• Raise and follow up on Notes for Approval (NFA) for deviations and modifications via official systems.
• Contribute to budgeting for sustainable resources and processes.
• Provide training needs inputs and facilitate feedback for ongoing quality improvement.
• Recommend innovations and new ideas for process enhancement.
• Lead quality awareness training sessions for maintenance and agency engineers/supervisors to promote a culture of excellence.
• Manage relationships with external agencies ensuring timely billing, account closures, and resolution of financial matters related to mechanical works.
• Implement and comply with IMS, AWMS, DISHA, and CHETNA guidelines within the department.
• Ensure safety compliance for contractors and associates through training and adherence to protocols.
• Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and enforce environmental, health, and safety standards aiming for zero harm.
• Drive digitization and automation strategies in mechanical quality assurance, leveraging technology for operational improvements.
• Measure and analyze data from digital tools to refine quality outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline from a recognized university.

Experience: Minimum 6 years in quality assurance/control, preferably with leadership experience in the power or heavy industry sectors.

Industry Preference: Background in power generation, energy, or heavy industrial domains with emphasis on operational excellence and quality management systems is favored.
