Role Overview
This opportunity is for an Assistant Designer focused on loungewear at a leading fashion company in New York City. The role centers on developing market-ready product concepts for assigned categories and collections, with designs that stay aligned to the brand’s overall creative direction and commercial goals.
You will contribute across style, color and print, fit, and fabric for both new and existing product lines. The position calls for someone who can translate trend and consumer insights into product that supports the integrity of the brand, while bringing energy, ownership, and a strong sense of execution to the team.
Compensation
Hourly pay is stated at $37.
Responsibilities
- Develop commercially strong designs that align with the brand vision and strategic direction.
- Produce polished product designs with a high level of accuracy, speed, flexibility, and focus on details.
- Build seasonal product concepts with close attention to style, fit, and fabric choices.
- Revise concepts based on feedback and carry them through to final approval.
- Identify internal and external inspiration sources, while continuously monitoring competitors and fashion trends.
- Work closely with Merchandising, Marketing, and Product Development teams throughout the design cycle.
- Present concepts and final work to internal leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Create design sketches and prototypes, along with clear specification details.
- Prepare detailed tech packs with emphasis on construction, drape, and finishing so initial samples meet brand standards.
- Maintain accurate BOM updates in Centric.
- Update seasonal linesheets with sketches and color information, coordinating with Color & Print, Product Development, and Graphics teams to keep details correct.
- Support, guide, and motivate junior design team members.
- Foster strong, cooperative working relationships across teams.
- Deliver work on budget and within deadlines without sacrificing design quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, or comparable hands-on experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in design within a similar retail setting.
- Strong commercial fashion sensibility and a sharp eye for styling and product performance.
- Proven ability to create original sketches and successfully developed product lines.
- Solid knowledge of fit, construction, and fabric development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Illustrator, InDesign, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Prior experience with Centric is a plus.
