Job description
Position summary
The Assistant Buyer supports the buying function by helping source and procure merchandise for direct-to-consumer channels. This role contributes to sales performance, sales volume, gross margin, and turnover goals through day-to-day buying operations and merchandise management.
Key responsibilities
- Handle assortment buying for the brand’s products on Farfetch.
- Take ownership of the Farfetch business operations, including order entry, product updates, inventory uploads, product turn-ins, and markdown administration, so sales objectives are achieved.
- Coordinate 3rd-party and owned accessories and lifestyle buying for retail locations and ecommerce.
- Partner with the VP of Buying to identify and purchase vintage accessories, maintain a productive relationship with the exclusive vintage apparel partner, and prepare a monthly product drop for selected stores.
- Create style records for all vintage items in the POS system and ensure merchandise is tagged and shipped to the designated stores.
- Confirm that stores receive 3rd-party merchandise properly and that receiving reports align with invoices before forwarding them to Finance for approval.
- Assist the VP of Buying and Director of Buying with order entry tasks.
- Monitor receipt flow across all assigned departments.
- Review sales patterns to spot top-performing items and manage replenishment orders to support sales targets.
- Prepare and circulate weekly sales performance reports, along with recommendations for management.
- Take part in OTB discussions to build knowledge of key financial concepts and components.
- Ensure markdowns and store promotions are accurately entered into the system and communicated to stores.
- Complete assigned work accurately, thoroughly, and on time.
- Work collaboratively with the team and bring a positive, helpful attitude to the buying function.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- At least 1 to 2 years of buying experience is needed.
- Strong proficiency in Excel is expected.
- Solid business analysis skills, including familiarity with retail math and retail systems, are important.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities are required.
- Ability to work to deadlines, independently, and as part of a team is necessary.
Compensation and employment details
This is a full-time, onsite, non-exempt role based in New York, NY. The anticipated base salary for this New York City position is between $60,000 and $70,000 per year. Overtime may be required and, where applicable, will be paid in line with the law. Final compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, skills, and internal equity.
