Job description

About the Role

AvantStay creates technology-enabled short-term rental group stays designed for millennial travelers. The company is venture-backed and expanding quickly within the large and fast-growing short-term rental market. Its model focuses on delivering a tailored, end-to-end experience supported by technology throughout the guest journey.

Role Overview

As an Assistant Area Manager, you will partner with the Area Manager to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly across AvantStay homes in the assigned market. The role is centered on protecting the guest experience by inspecting properties, tracking supplies, and handling concerns quickly and effectively. This position requires you to live close to the market and travel frequently within the area.

You must be based within a short drive of the vacation rental homes in the designated location.

Key Duties

  • Support the Area Manager with assigned operational work, and step in as the market lead and people manager when both the Area Manager and, where relevant, the Senior Assistant Area Manager are unavailable.
  • Serve as a dependable contact for property owners, share updates in a timely way, review owner distribution statements, and coordinate between owners and internal teams.
  • Help maintain owner satisfaction targets and operational standards for the market.
  • Work with the local team to keep operations efficient, including coaching, training, and reviewing field operations staff.
  • Track guest and homeowner issues until they are resolved within the expected timeline, then verify the quality of the resolution and take follow-up action when needed.
  • Use sound judgment to spot property issues or quality concerns early and either resolve them or assign corrective work to other field team members.
  • Handle important administrative work that supports daily operations without direct supervision.
  • Oversee or coordinate housekeeping and routine maintenance tasks such as linen changes, furniture movement, bulb replacements, cable troubleshooting, and wifi support.
  • Keep each home stocked with the required consumables and linens for the market.
  • Perform property inspections as needed to ensure homes meet AvantStay standards and applicable regulations, especially when market coverage is limited in the area.
  • Respond promptly to guest and homeowner messages through email, phone, text, Slack, and ticketing systems.
  • Travel regularly to properties across the assigned territory to support operations and compliance.
  • Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule for market support.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in hospitality or another customer-facing role.
  • Experience in vacation rentals is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Salesforce familiarity is an advantage.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and a flexible schedule based on business needs.
  • A dependable vehicle that can handle snowy conditions, plus a valid driver’s license.
  • Comfortable spending most of the workday standing, walking, and driving between properties.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly, and occasionally push, pull, or lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Strong self-management, prioritization, and deadline-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Responsive communication through Slack and email.
  • Hospitality and/or real estate experience, along with an Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) designation, are considered advantages.
  • The job requires hands-on presence in the market as business needs demand.

Benefits

  • Starting annual pay of $60,000, plus performance-based bonus opportunities depending on skills and experience.
  • Company-funded insurance coverage, including medical, dental, vision, and life benefits.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Complimentary and discounted stays at AvantStay properties.
  • Pre-tax retirement savings options through Betterment.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Fitness reimbursement.
  • Cell phone reimbursement.
  • Mileage reimbursement.
