About the role
Amrize is hiring motivated people to join its Asphalt Paving Crew in Nanaimo, British Columbia. In this position, you’ll support the building and upkeep of asphalt roads and surfaces while helping deliver quality results and maintaining strong safety practices.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with the crew to finish paving assignments on schedule.
- Carry out asphalt paving activities such as spreading and leveling material, compacting surfaces with rollers, excavating, grading, and using skid steers for related tasks.
- Make sure asphalt surfaces are compacted properly and drainage requirements are met according to project specifications.
- Use, operate, and look after paving equipment in line with safety procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Coordinate with supervisors and teammates to keep work moving and resolve issues that come up during paving operations.
- Perform regular checks and basic upkeep on equipment to reduce downtime and keep machinery working well.
- Follow environmental rules and company procedures for waste handling and material use.
- Support a strong health, safety, and environmental culture by following policies and promoting safe work practices.
What the employer is looking for
Applicants should have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification. Experience in asphalt paving or a construction-related trade is helpful but not mandatory. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
Additional requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort working in a busy, high-output environment.
- Willingness to work overtime when needed, including Saturdays.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and efficient work habits.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Readiness to work outdoors in changing weather and to perform physically demanding, repetitive tasks.
- Compliance with all safety rules and correct use of approved PPE, including respirators where required.
- For respirator use, employees must be clean shaven where the mask seal touches the face in order to pass both qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
