Job description

About the Company

Aerem is distinguished as the first Pasifika-owned asbestos testing laboratory in New Zealand accredited by IANZ and certified under ISO standards. The company offers specialized services including asbestos laboratory analysis, surveying, removal management, clearance, mould consultancy, and other environmental assessments. Founded amidst the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021 as a family initiative, Aerem has rapidly evolved into a professional consultancy dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of New Zealand communities through health and safety compliance.

Role Overview

This full-time, on-premises Asbestos Consultant role in Auckland involves comprehensive asbestos surveys and inspections across residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The consultant will be responsible for sampling, coordinating with laboratories, producing detailed technical reports, and advising clients on managing asbestos risks. Furthermore, the position requires supporting asbestos removal oversight to ensure compliance with regulations and performing post-removal site clearance inspections. Collaboration with internal teams and active communication with clients, alongside adherence to applicable New Zealand standards, are core to the role. Continuous enhancement of Aerem's environmental services is also expected.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient technical expertise in asbestos surveying, sampling, and inspections, along with solid knowledge of New Zealand regulations and industry codes.
  • Ability to interpret laboratory data and compile clear, succinct reports for diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of asbestos removal processes, including management, clearance protocols, and onsite health and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with environmental consulting topics like mould evaluations and environmental risk assessments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client communication skills to translate technical details into understandable terms.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Relevant asbestos consultancy certifications or training; higher education in science, environmental management, occupational hygiene, or related disciplines is advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and readiness to travel throughout Auckland and occasionally New Zealand nationally.
  • A firm commitment to workplace health and safety, ongoing professional development, and positively engaging with diverse community groups.
