The role calls for strong command of English, sound academic judgement, and the ability to create engaging lessons that encourage inquiry, analysis, and independent thinking. The teacher will handle English Language and Literature instruction and prepare students thoroughly for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

What You Will Do

  • Design and conduct interactive, student-focused lessons for English Language and/or Literature in line with the Cambridge IGCSE, AS, and A Level syllabus.
  • Strengthen learners’ understanding of concepts, analytical thinking, vocabulary, and appreciation of literature.
  • Connect prose, poetry, and drama with practical contexts and other subject areas wherever relevant.
  • Coach students for Paper 1 (Reading), Paper 2 (Writing), and literature papers using suitable examination strategies.
  • Create lesson plans, unit plans, and yearly curriculum outlines that match CIE expectations.
  • Build formative and summative assessments with clear evaluation rubrics.
  • Maintain academic documentation, including lesson reflections and student progress records, for internal and external review purposes.
  • Monitor each student’s performance and provide tailored feedback and academic support.
  • Help students improve academic writing, reasoning, referencing, and grammar.
  • Support learners who may need English proficiency preparation for university-level entry tests such as IELTS and SAT Verbal.
  • Conduct regular assessments based on Cambridge objectives and keep grade records accurate.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports and participate in parent-teacher interactions.
  • Train students using past papers and Cambridge marking approaches.
  • Serve as a Class Teacher/Mentor for assigned students and support their academic, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Maintain an encouraging, inclusive classroom culture that promotes creativity, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Keep parents informed about academic progress and behavioural concerns as needed.
  • Work with coordinators and school leadership on curriculum planning, meetings, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Take part in internal moderation, faculty development, and professional learning sessions.
  • Stay current with curriculum revisions, CIE updates, and effective modern teaching practices.
  • Encourage Cambridge learner attributes and 21st-century skills.
  • Contribute to literary, cultural, and co-curricular activities such as debates, MUNs, poetry slams, and creative writing contests.
  • Follow the school’s values and code of conduct in all professional duties.

Required Profile

  • Excellent spoken and written English with strong grammar and clear articulation.
  • Ability to design creative lessons and keep students engaged in thoughtful, reflective learning.
  • Strong knowledge of literary forms, rhetorical devices, literary analysis, and academic writing.
  • Comfort using digital teaching tools, LMS platforms, and online resources for instruction and assessment.
  • Good interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and collaborative working style.
  • Ability to inspire and support high-performing students in a diverse, multicultural setting.
  • Master’s degree in English Literature or English Language from a recognized university.
  • B.Ed. or an equivalent teaching qualification is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience teaching English at the senior secondary level, preferably in Cambridge AS & A Level or IBDP curriculum.
  • Working knowledge of Cambridge International Examinations, syllabus interpretation, and assessment standards is essential.
