Job description
Your role
As an Area Lead, you will take on a senior leadership position overseeing retail performance, capability, and customer experience across a cluster of One NZ stores in the Top of the South and Christchurch region. The coverage includes Richmond, Nelson, Blenheim, Rangiora, Northlands, The Palms, Hornby, Cashel Street, and Riccarton. The focus of the role is to lead through others, create clear direction, raise standards, and deliver reliable commercial and customer results across the area.
You will be accountable for strong results in your own store while also coaching, supporting, and enabling Retail Leads across the region to succeed. By setting clear expectations, maintaining performance focus, and following through consistently, you will help develop confident leaders who deliver memorable retail experiences for both customers and teams.
At One NZ, the emphasis is on people serving people and strengthening communities. In this role, you will help drive store success, inspire teams to deliver excellent service, build meaningful customer relationships, and achieve strong commercial outcomes. Reporting to the Market Lead, you will provide practical leadership, performance coaching, and day-to-day support as the business continues its move toward a stronger omni-channel retail model and a more connected Aotearoa.
This position offers an opportunity to take on a wider leadership remit across a varied and expanding area, including the launch of the new store at The Palms on 16 July.
Key responsibilities
- Meet and exceed core performance measures in your own retail store, covering sales, margin, customer satisfaction, and operational execution.
- Offer direct coaching, direction, and support to the Retail Leads in your area so they can effectively manage their stores and teams.
- Track QSA (Quality of Service Audit) outcomes across the region and take action to close any performance gaps.
- Lead the monthly completion of each store’s Balanced Scorecard and work with Retail Leads to deliver against targets.
- Design and implement approaches that improve sales growth, operational efficiency, and team performance across the area.
- Work closely with the Market Lead to ensure alignment with the broader omni-channel strategy and to maintain consistent brand standards.
What you bring
- A strong history of delivering outstanding results in a Retail Lead role.
- Highly developed people leadership capability, including the ability to coach, grow, and inspire teams.
- Solid knowledge of retail operations, customer experience, and the commercial factors that drive performance.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability to identify and resolve performance issues.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate across different functions.
- Flexibility and resilience to perform well in a busy, fast-changing environment.
What you will get
- Competitive sales commission in addition to your base salary.
- Comprehensive sales training, coaching, and mentoring from experienced industry professionals.
- Career growth opportunities into business sales, management, or other areas within One NZ.
- Fully subsidised Southern Cross health insurance for you and your family.
- Lifestyle leave options that let you buy an extra one or two weeks of annual leave.
- Discounts on One New Zealand products and services, along with other benefits.
- Recognition programmes that celebrate sales achievements.
