Job description

Role Overview

The Architect role involves performing foundational architectural and engineering analyses, preparing specifications, reports, and relevant data tables as detailed in the main contract. Key duties include drafting, reviewing, and approving architectural drawings while coordinating with design and drafting teams. This position supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is based at Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB), Doha, Qatar.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver architectural services for new construction projects encompassing concept creation, project scoping, and development of floor plans, elevations, schematics, and renderings.
  • Engage with clients to clarify project goals, requirements, and budget; conduct preliminary studies including feasibility and environmental impact assessments; assist in site selection and outline design criteria.
  • Produce presentation drawings for client review.
  • Formulate detailed construction plans illustrating building aesthetics and construction details.
  • Ensure adherence to building codes, zoning regulations, fire safety standards, and related ordinances, making timely adjustments during planning and design phases.
  • Participate in, and lead as necessary, meetings mandated by the contract.
  • Oversee specific construction inspections, quality assurance tasks, and review submissions exceeding construction managers' expertise.
  • Confirm design fidelity and quality of work performed on projects.
  • Execute additional architectural duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Possess a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Architecture from an NCARB-accredited university.
  • At least seven years of experience in commercial (non-residential) architectural projects as a registered architect, including a minimum of five years in project leadership roles and at least two years within public or governmental organizations.
  • Strong understanding of planning principles, project programming, design review, project and construction management.
  • Preferred coursework includes FIT WENG 400, WENG 519, WMGT 301, WMGT 322, WMGT 422, and WTSS 200.
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD 2025 or later and other architectural graphic software relevant to the contract.
  • Capability to obtain and retain a SECRET U.S. Government Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within diverse, dynamic teams, excellent problem-solving skills, and sound judgment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Assignment location conditions may be remote and uncomfortable with exposure to weather and hazardous environments.
  • Potential for long working hours and requirement to be ready for relocation on short notice under challenging conditions.
  • Typical office environment with limited hazards; occasional lifting up to 20 pounds; continuous computer use requiring sustained visual and vocal communication; high degree of mental focus and organizational skills under deadline pressure.
