Role Overview

We are looking for an Applied AI Engineer to promote the adoption of Mistral's AI products by directly engaging with customers. This role involves troubleshooting complex technical challenges and guiding clients through the integration process.

The Applied AI team functions as Mistral's customer-facing technical unit, partnering with enterprise clients from initial sales conversations through implementation to deploy impactful AI solutions.

Team members act like startup CTOs, handling entire project lifecycles by bridging advanced AI research with practical enterprise applications to ensure scalable, reliable, and aligned solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently deploy AI use cases into production that create significant business value across diverse industries.
• Build state-of-the-art generative AI applications ranging from consumer-facing products to industrial implementations, fostering technological transformation alongside clients.
• Collaborate with researchers, AI engineers, and product teams on complex projects involving advanced fine-tuning and large language model (LLM) applications, and contribute to open-source efforts related to inference and fine-tuning.
• Participate in pre-sales discussions to understand client needs, challenges, and objectives; provide technical guidance and clearly communicate Mistral's technologies to various stakeholders.
• Partner with product and science teams to continuously refine and enhance product and model capabilities based on customer feedback.

Candidate Profile

• Fluent English speaker.
• At least 2 years of hands-on technical experience as a data scientist or software engineer with AI-centric products.
• Demonstrable experience delivering AI or machine learning products involving APIs, backend, and frontend integration.
• Expertise in fine-tuning large language models and addressing advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) or agent-based scenarios.
• Strong foundation in machine learning concepts and the algorithms underpinning LLMs.
• Proficient programming skills in Python.
• Effective communicator capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Contributions to open-source projects, notably in the LLM domain.
• Previous roles such as Customer Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Product Manager.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks, especially PyTorch.
