Job description
Role Summary
The Appian Developer is responsible for constructing and configuring Appian application components as part of a team delivering technology solutions for public-sector clients in Singapore. This role emphasizes implementing designs created by Senior Developers and Architects, progressively taking greater responsibility for features, integrations, and bug fixes. Developers must adhere to rigorous coding, security, and documentation standards from the outset that meet government-level benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
- Create Appian interfaces using SAIL along with process models, Records, Sites, and Task Reports based on detailed design specs.
- Configure Appian security elements such as groups and role mappings under guidance.
- Develop and support Custom Data Types essential to assigned modules.
- Assist in integrating external systems as directed by senior staff.
- Translate business and user stories into Appian functionalities and implement them.
- Conduct unit testing and address defects detected during System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing cycles.
- Produce clean, well-documented code following Appian and project coding guidelines.
- Help with data migration, environment setup, and deployment tasks as needed.
- Report blockers or unclear design aspects promptly to senior technical leaders.
Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of two years actively developing with Appian and three or more years in IT overall.
- Proficient with Appian platform versions 20.x and later.
- Strong knowledge in defining and managing Appian security configurations.
- Skilled in SAIL scripting for interface development.
- Experienced in creating and utilizing Custom Data Types (CDTs).
- Knowledgeable about Task Reports, Records, and Sites construction.
- Exposure to integrating external systems with Appian.
- Good understanding of relational database principles.
- Familiar with Appian's best practice guidelines.
- Capable of interpreting requirements accurately and translating them into working solutions.
Certifications
- Appian Certified Associate Developer mandatory.
- Certification as an Appian Senior Developer considered beneficial.
Singapore Public Sector Specifics
- Previous involvement with Singapore Government or statutory boards preferred but not essential.
- Preparedness to comply with government-mandated processes including constrained device and network usage plus standardized change management.
- Basic familiarity with data classification and confidentiality norms relevant to public sector projects required.
- Willingness to work physically on government sites as the engagement demands.
Soft Skills and Client Interaction
- Strong communication capabilities combined with a proactive learning approach towards agency processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a rigid, process-oriented governmental project team environment.
