Job Overview
The Airport Supervisor supports the Airport Manager in overseeing, monitoring, and assessing daily activities within the station. This role ensures safety, security, punctuality, operational efficiency, and seamless workflow while adhering to the company's policies and regulatory guidelines. Additionally, establishing strong cooperative relationships with civil aviation authorities and ground handling agents is essential to optimize operations and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Airport Manager in supervising operational and security tasks to ensure efficient daily processes in line with company protocols and station manuals.
- Oversee briefings, ramp operations, check-in, safety, and security protocols, reporting any irregularities or delays promptly to the Airport Manager for resolution.
- Coordinate with the Airport Manager, Flight Operations, and MCC to manage aircraft on ground (AOG), emergencies, technical delays, operational disruptions, and service recovery.
- Report all incidents and accidents to the Airport Manager and Head Office through designated communication channels and formats.
- Immediately report dangerous goods incidents to local authorities and headquarters.
- Provide clear instructions to ground handling staff, guide them to deliver effective passenger service, and support complex or critical situations.
- Ensure relevant information is shared with local authorities and disseminate advisories from Ground Operations to appropriate personnel.
- Monitor and enforce compliance of ground handling agents with company policies, regulations, and legal requirements, reporting infractions to the Airport Manager.
- Supervise agreements with GHAs and GSAs, including their performance, payments, meetings, and communication, recommending improvements to protect company interests and reputation.
- Analyze delay and performance data to track customer service quality, identify trends, and address recurring issues.
- Oversee baggage handling processes, investigate lost luggage complaints, and compile reports for the Airport Manager.
- Assist Quality Assurance, Safety, and Security teams in audits to ensure staff adherence to standards and timely issue resolution.
- Monitor revenue-generating services such as excess baggage, go-show tickets, wheelchair assistance, and seat sales, aiding the airport team in meeting targets and maintaining excellent service.
- Provide the Airport Manager and Head Office with essential reports, including flight handling, disruption, incident/accident, and customer complaint documentation.
- Act as deputy to the Airport Manager during their absence.
Qualifications and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Administration or related field, or a diploma with relevant experience.
- Mandatory training in basic airport safety and security procedures and regulations.
- Required certifications/training in IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, Passenger Handling, and Ground Operations Procedures.
- Certificates in Cost Control, Compliance, and Quality Assurance are advantageous.
- Proficiency with Passenger Handling Systems and Departure Control Systems (DCS).
- Strong command of Microsoft Office, internet research, and report writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency may be necessary depending on region.
Experience
- Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in the airline, aviation, or ground handling agency sectors focused on passenger or ground handling.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory capacity managing a team handling departure and arrival operations; experience with low-cost carriers is a plus.
- Sound knowledge of IATA, civil aviation authorities, and regulatory bodies governing ground handling procedures and standards.
- Experience in areas such as passenger handling, cargo, ramp operations, dispatch, dangerous goods regulation, and load control.
- Ability to develop professional relationships within the aviation industry to establish credibility quickly.
- Familiarity with service level agreements and their monitoring.
- Competent in implementing policies, operational procedures, and manuals aligned with standards and laws.
- Knowledgeable about Quality Assurance, Safety, Security, and audit protocols related to ground operations.
- Calm and self-assured individual capable of managing emergencies effectively.
- Possesses strong time management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Detail-oriented and dynamic, maintaining high accuracy in daily tasks.
