Job description
About Nymbus
Nymbus is a fintech innovator focused on transforming banking with a modern core platform and cloud technology. We empower financial institutions to modernize and succeed with cutting-edge solutions.
Role Overview
We are seeking an AI Product Builder specializing in Payments to lead the development of advanced payment capabilities. You will be responsible for ensuring complex payment-domain challenges are translated into reliable, production-ready software using AI-assisted methodologies. This role involves owning delivery, validation, and operational readiness in collaboration with architects and shippers, ensuring seamless end-to-end outcomes.
Work Environment
This is a remote-first role with occasional travel requirements for team collaboration or client engagements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute product vision for scalable, extensible payment capabilities across multiple rails and networks.
- Convert strategic, client, regulatory, and operational requirements into actionable platform features.
- Design comprehensive payment flows encompassing initiation, validation, authorization, routing, clearing, settlement, posting, reconciliation, dispute management, and exception handling.
- Create common payment patterns while preserving network-specific behaviors.
- Architect canonical payment models, transaction state machines, and message handling frameworks.
- Evaluate trade-offs between speed, cost, risk, and customer experience to inform product decisions.
- Ensure extensibility so new payment types, networks, and use cases can be integrated without major redesign.
- Design and implement payment initiation, routing, orchestration, validation, transformation, and delivery mechanisms.
- Address both synchronous and asynchronous payment flows and manage complex transaction states and controls such as idempotency, retries, timeouts, and reversals.
- Develop APIs and event-driven interfaces for external and internal consumers, ensuring traceability of payment status and history.
- Build operational tools to enable payment support teams to safely monitor and resolve issues.
- Use expert knowledge in payment standards including ISO 8583, ISO 20022, ACH, Fedwire, SWIFT, RTP, FedNow, and related protocols.
- Implement settlement and liquidity management features, including position tracking, funding, limits, queues, and cutoffs.
- Collaborate closely with banking, treasury, finance, risk, and operations teams to translate business needs into automated platform behaviors.
- Author precise, implementation-ready specifications that clearly define system behavior, APIs, state transitions, error handling, and operational scenarios using AI-assisted tools.
- Prototype and validate innovative solutions amidst ambiguity, utilizing AI-driven development tools as force multipliers.
- Engage directly in the implementation process by coding, reviewing, testing, and supporting releases to ensure quality and reliability.
- Work daily with architects and shippers in a triad model to ensure technical integrity, delivery discipline, and operational readiness.
- Ensure systems are designed for correctness, availability, security, scalability, resilience, and auditability, including comprehensive observability and logging.
- Maintain ownership through post-release validation and production support to guarantee dependable operation of payment capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- At least seven years’ experience developing, designing, operating, or leading complex payment systems within fintech, banking, or related financial sectors.
- Proven expertise with payment switches, gateways, orchestration platforms, payment engines, processors, or core payment services.
- Deep understanding of payment lifecycles such as initiation, authorization, clearing, settlement, posting, reconciliation, disputes, returns, reversals, and exception management.
Work Model
This role works within a collaborative triad structure involving the Builder (primary product developer), Architect (system architecture and technical governance), and Shipper (quality assurance and operational readiness partner).
Additional Information
The successful candidate will leverage AI-driven tools including Kiro and Claude for accelerated design, code generation, testing, and iteration, critically evaluating outputs for accuracy and compliance with payment domain requirements.
