Job description
Role overview
This role sits within the MacKillop National After-Hours Services Unit and focuses on delivering dependable residential care for vulnerable young people. The position supports their emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing while helping create a safe, stable, and encouraging environment.
What you will do
You will support young people to build everyday independence, uphold their rights, and respond quickly to any wellbeing concerns. The role also involves helping young people stay connected to important people and places in their lives, encouraging access to information and experiences that strengthen identity, and involving them in decisions that affect them.
You will provide care that reflects the organisation’s values, policies, and practice frameworks, including The Way We Work With Young People. The role requires collaboration with residential care colleagues, case workers, service providers, and families, along with roving duties across residential units in the assigned regions.
Accurate recordkeeping is also a key part of the job, including case notes, communication books, incident reports, hazard reports, and near-miss reports. You will contribute to client participation and feedback processes, protect confidential information, follow administrative and financial procedures, and take part in professional learning, supervision, and performance review processes with the Team Leader / Coordinator and the National After Hours Services Unit.
What the role needs
The successful candidate will bring understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, plus awareness of the issues currently affecting Aboriginal children, young people, and families. Experience in youth services or residential care is important, as is the ability to build rapport with young people who face social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
You should be confident implementing behaviour management plans, have practical awareness of workplace OH&S requirements, and communicate clearly in both spoken and written form.
Additional information
This is a permanent, full-time position based in Warrnambool, Victoria, working onsite in the After-Hours Program. The role reports to the After-Hours Coordinator.
