Newmont Corporation, the world’s leading gold company with operations across Africa, Australia, Latin America, North America, and Papua New Guinea, is looking for an Advisor, Hygiene to join their team at the Ahafo North mine in Ghana. Role Purpose
The Advisor, Hygiene will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace health hazards to ensure occupational health standards are met and to promote a safe and healthy work atmosphere within the mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform workplace evaluations to detect chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards.
- Conduct monitoring of environmental parameters such as air quality, noise, vibration, and radiation using recognized methods.
- Create and enforce programs to manage occupational exposures in accordance with legal and best practice standards.
- Track and ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene statutes and internal site protocols.
- Offer technical advice regarding personal protective equipment selection, fitting, use, and upkeep.
- Develop and conduct training sessions on industrial hygiene and occupational health risks for employees and contractors.
- Assist with investigations relating to occupational health and hygiene incidents.
- Maintain precise records of monitoring data to meet statutory and corporate standards.
- Analyze hygiene data statistically to identify trends, variability, and support informed risk-based decisions.
- Uphold statutory duties under occupational health and mining laws, including acting as a competent person where applicable.
Location
This position is based at the Ahafo North mine site in Ghana.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or professional degree in Science, Environmental Health, Engineering, Safety, or related discipline.
- Advanced Certificate in Occupational Hygiene is an added advantage.
- 3 to 5 years of industrial hygiene experience within mining or heavy industry settings.
- Expertise in occupational health assessments and data/statistical analysis.
- Proven track record of implementing industrial hygiene systems and monitoring programs ensuring legal compliance.
- Strong communication and influencing capabilities with diverse stakeholders.
- Advanced knowledge in mine or surface ventilation systems.
