Job description

Overview

This position is for an Account Manager focused on public sector customers in Kent. It is a growth-oriented account management role rather than a pure new-business hunt, with responsibility for expanding revenue across an established client base. The role is offered with hybrid working, typically involving 1–2 days per week in a regional office, and includes a base salary of £38,000 to £48,000, along with around £40,000 in on-target earnings and a car or car allowance.

The employer is a long-standing technology company with a strong presence across small and medium-sized businesses as well as the public sector. You will inherit live accounts and be expected to build value within them through proactive account development, stakeholder engagement, and solution-led selling.

Role focus

You will manage roughly 100 active accounts across public sector organisations such as councils, schools, and local bodies. The work is centred on identifying opportunities within existing relationships, creating internal access to the right decision-makers, and steadily growing revenue from the current base.

What you will do

  • Take ownership of an assigned portfolio of existing accounts and develop it over time
  • Reconnect with customers who are inactive or not fully using the service offering
  • Spot opportunities to add value through cross-sell and upsell across a wide technology range
  • Arrange meetings and progress opportunities inside customer organisations
  • Collaborate with specialist colleagues when deeper solution support is needed to win business
  • Continue holding responsibility for the account relationship and associated revenue
  • Create and maintain a healthy pipeline and clear account plans

Working style and performance expectations

This is not positioned as a large-scale procurement sale. The emphasis is on departmental-level selling, regular activity, and consistent account growth. Success is expected to come from disciplined relationship management rather than occasional high-value wins. Targets are described as realistic, with an annual expectation of around £800,000 including renewals and expansion revenue.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will have direct experience managing public sector accounts, ideally in technology, services, or a similar environment. You should be comfortable growing existing accounts, understand commercial factors such as pricing, margins, and deal value, and be able to identify opportunities while involving others appropriately to progress and close deals. Confidence with multiple stakeholders is also important.

Public sector sales experience is required for this role.

What is offered

This opportunity comes with a stable business environment, strong market recognition, and clear earning potential. The commission structure is uncapped, with roughly £40,000 of upside mentioned. A company car or allowance is included, and the role combines office and field-based working in a hybrid model.
