Job description
About the Role
NEXTDC is seeking a trades- or technical-minded person to step into an entry-level Data Centre Technician position within the facilities team. The role supports a 24/7 operation at the West Footscray site and centers on practical facility work rather than IT support.
The company operates modern, energy-efficient data centres that support customers in Australia and abroad. It is an ASX 100 technology business with 16 data centres across 7 major Australian cities, and additional expansion is already planned. The organization places strong emphasis on learning, collaboration, innovation, and customer-focused service.
This position comes with full on-the-job training across core data centre and critical infrastructure areas, including cooling, electrical systems, cabling infrastructure, building monitoring, and fire systems.
Work Pattern
The appointed candidate must be comfortable with a rotating 4-5-5 roster. Day duty runs from 7:00am to 7:00pm, while night duty runs from 7:00pm to 7:00am. Shift work is continuous across a 24/7 environment.
There may also be occasional travel between sites during shifts when required.
Key Responsibilities
The role supports day-to-day data centre operations by delivering efficient technical maintenance and customer service in a hands-on environment.
- Provide cabling support for electrical and data connections to customer racks and designated areas
- Respond to remote hands requests as needed
- Help coordinate vendors responsible for servicing core electrical and mechanical systems
- Identify facility issues and work to resolve them promptly
- Keep building management and monitoring systems under watch at all times, escalating issues internally or to external vendors without delay
- Ensure visitors and contractors follow site rules and facility procedures
- Carry out manual handling tasks as part of daily operations
Training and Role Focus
This is not an IT-heavy position. It is primarily a practical facility management role involving operational support, maintenance tasks, and service delivery within a critical infrastructure setting.
