Job Overview
The Visitor Experience Coordinator role is centered on providing both administrative and operational assistance to enhance the visitor services within the VVIBE program at the Smithsonian Institution, ensuring an exceptional visitor experience throughout.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Help support Visitor Services operations including customer assistance, wayfinding, managing visitor crowds, implementing safety measures, accessibility services, engaging visitors, and interpreting museum content.
- Manage and lead a large volunteer team within the Visitor Services program, involving recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and providing guidance.
- Utilize digital tools and databases such as Constituent Relationship Management (CRM), VSys, SenSource, and ticketing systems for operational support and data management.
- Monitor and report on VVIBE training objectives and program progress regularly.
- Assist in designing and leading training programs aligned with Smithsonian Institutional strategic goals.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Successful completion of a Pre-employment Background Investigation and potentially a Probationary Period.
- Maintain a bank account for direct deposit payment processing.
- Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
- Availability to work either Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday schedules, including holidays and evening shifts.
- Specialized experience includes prior work in museum or cultural institution visitor services handling crowd and visitor engagement, wayfinding, and volunteer coordination.
- Educational qualifications vary by grade level: GS-07 requires one year of graduate education or superior academic achievement, GS-09 requires a master's degree or equivalent, or related graduate education, or law degree if related.
- Combination of education and experience may also meet qualification standards.
