Overview
This role is responsible for identifying the locations of County-owned water and wastewater utility lines and service connections. It is a nonexempt position within Salary Grade 11.
Compensation
The pay range for this job is $19.52 per hour to $31.43 per hour.
Primary Duties
- Find and mark underground water and wastewater assets, including mains, hydrants, fire lines, manholes, water meters, service connections, valves, and related utilities.
- Review locate tickets and requests, travel to the work site, study maps, determine line depth and length, and record the location of utility lines.
- Photograph site conditions, update maps and digital records, and keep supporting documentation current.
- Examine utility damage caused by excavation work, document the site in detail with photos and drawings, assess liability factors, and prepare reports and related paperwork.
- Report leaks, backups, damaged or missing equipment, and similar field issues; issue warnings and citations tied to water-use violations; keep rights-of-way free of obstructions; and help shut down mains for repairs and new connections.
- Follow safety rules, check that required protective equipment is being used, and help protect workers and the public by setting markers, cones, signs, and traffic control around the site.
- Answer questions and complaints related to utility locates, research issues, work toward solutions, and help prevent excavation until locate work is complete.
- Complete forms, correspondence, work tickets, vehicle maintenance logs, locate reports, and other records.
- Operate and care for job-related tools and equipment such as a vehicle, radar, metal detector, magnetic pipe locator, stakes, flags, and GPS devices.

Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least three years of experience in utility services or a related field. An equivalent mix of education, training, and experience may also be considered if it provides the knowledge and skills needed for the role.
License Requirement
A valid Georgia driver’s license is required and must be kept current.
