Role Overview
Located in Cairns, this Trades Assistant position involves performing general laboring, preparation, and cleaning activities within a shipyard setting, working under the guidance of a Leading Hand or Supervisor.

Their In Service Support division offers routine and complex maintenance, ensuring vessels operate efficiently throughout their lifecycle by combining original design knowledge and operational insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in Confined Space Entry, Sentry, and Fire Sentry tasks.
- Support tradespeople as needed.
- Participate in all stages of the docking process.
- Adhere to and promote all Austal HSEQ policies and procedures.
- Maintain personal and team accountability for safety and quality standards.
- Ensure effective housekeeping practices are maintained.
- Drive continuous improvement in standards and waste reduction.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Competence in performing duties safely and using standard tools.
- Strong time management skills to meet supervisor-established goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift license.
- Elevating Work Platform (EWP) certification for heights above 11 meters.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Confined Space qualification.
- Experience operating under issued permits.
- Training in First Attack Fire Fighting Equipment.
- At least 1 year of general laboring experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in Confined Space Entry, Sentry, and Fire Sentry roles.
