About the Role
Join the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in Townsville as a Town Planner and contribute to the future of transport infrastructure and sustainable community development across Queensland's Northern District. Your expertise will assist in managing transport projects, evaluating development applications, and delivering professional planning guidance that supports a connected, efficient road network and thriving communities.
Primary Duties
- Analyze state and local planning documents and advise to ensure safety and operational efficiency of state-controlled roads.
- Offer specialist planning evaluations for development applications governed by the Planning Act 2016, Transport Infrastructure Act 1994, and State Development Assessment Provisions.
- Provide advice on town planning issues such as road advertising, notifiable road uses, works within road reserves, and ministerial designations.
- Oversee development applications through their various stages using effective project management methodologies pertinent to town planning.
- Ensure adherence to policies, standards, and legislative requirements regarding transport planning and development assessment.
- Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders concerning transport infrastructure and regional development activities.
Qualifications and Conditions
- Possession of a Bachelor degree in Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban and Environmental Planning, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
- Holds a valid Class ‘C’ Driver's Licence.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background checks including criminal history and disciplinary declarations.
- Eligibility to work within Australia.
Preferred Experience
- Practical experience in town planning related to transport infrastructure.
- Familiarity with assessments under the Planning Act 2016, especially relating to transport projects.
- Competence using software such as eDAM, PARC, and Imaps.
