Due to growth in New Zealand's renewable energy industry, specifically wind energy, SLR is establishing a new role: Technical Director - Planning. This position focuses on managing RMA project workflows and obtaining consents for onshore wind farm projects across New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead coordination, proposal development, and RMA project management within the planning practice for complex onshore wind farm initiatives, including navigating the Fast Track Approvals Act.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to clients on all planning processes and regulatory approvals.
• Manage client relationships throughout project lifecycles and support important client initiatives, from strategic engagement to daily operations.
• Oversee internal technical teams and external consultants to ensure project deliverables meet budgets and timelines during the consent process.
• Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing within SLR to advance renewable energy projects.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with clients and professionals within SLR and externally.
• Identify and pursue business development opportunities to promote growth and meet performance targets.
• Collaborate with leadership including Growth Director and Planning Managers to optimize resource allocation and enhance delivery capabilities.
• Conduct technical peer reviews of project reports to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Stay informed on industry trends, participate in associations and technical forums to maintain sector expertise.

Qualifications and Experience

• Professional qualification in resource management planning or a related degree.
• Either full or progressing towards full membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
• Over two decades of experience in planning and resource management.
• A proven history of successfully winning and managing complex onshore wind energy projects, especially those using Fast Track Approvals, with demonstrated financial achievement.
• Recognized as an expert within the renewable energy resource management sector.
• Experienced in managing stakeholder engagement, including working with mana whenua.
• Strong client management and relationship-building skills.
• Track record of mentoring and coaching staff for professional growth.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Commercially astute with the ability to support client needs effectively.
• Excellent communicator with colleagues and clients.
• Superior time management skills capable of handling multiple competing deadlines.
