Structural Welding Supervisor

Overview

As a Structural Welding Supervisor at Qatar Fabrication Company based in Ras Laffan, Al Khor, and Al Thakhira, Qatar, you will oversee the welding team ensuring adherence to project standards including safety, quality, and ethics.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate foremen and crew activities to meet project goals.
• Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Quality, and Ethics policies and take prompt corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Communicate effectively with crew members, foremen, superintendents, and stakeholders.
• Analyze and interpret project drawings, specifications, and procedures to make informed decisions and corrective measures.
• Familiarize with applicable standards and project-specific requirements.
• Plan work schedules at least four weeks in advance utilizing the current project plan.
• Equip foremen with necessary drawings, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and information to achieve efficient, productive, and safe operations.
• Collaborate with production engineers to secure material availability for planned jobs.
• Ensure availability and optimal use of proper tools and equipment, maintaining productivity and safety.
• Apply knowledge of project milestones, yard layouts, and construction drawings to grasp the overall project scope in your area.
• Understand the construction methods, fabrication sequence, and deadlines to supervise progress effectively.
• Forecast resource requirements including manpower and equipment required for upcoming tasks.
• Conduct organized meetings with direct reports and set production targets for foremen.
• Coordinate with supporting departments including QC and NDT to ensure seamless operations.
• Issue written instructions as needed and encourage the team towards meeting progress, quality, safety, and productivity goals.
• Monitor estimated man-hours for work packages, track bookings, and report weekly progress to production engineers.
• Address any shortcomings related to standards, targets, quality, or productivity promptly, escalating issues with improvement recommendations when necessary.
• Maintain accurate communications with superintendents and ensure timely Computer Input Requests (CIR) and Requests for Inspection (RFI).
• Conduct Toolbox Talks (TBT), safety walkthroughs, and enforce the Hazard Identification and Tracking (HIT) process.
• Review Task Risk Assessments (TRA) with foremen and crew where relevant.
• Ensure good housekeeping and foster Behavioral Based Safety Management (BBSM) within your team.
• Lead by example, strictly following company policies and procedures.
• Manage proper storage of welding consumables to prevent mix-ups and incorrect selections.
• Coordinate with Facilities & Maintenance (F&M) for timely calibration of welding machines.
• Interface with welding engineers to qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welders according to project needs.
• Plan welding qualifications through the welding school to fulfill project requirements.
• Actively promote and support Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (QHSES) initiatives to meet organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum education: High School Diploma.
• At least 10 years of experience in offshore construction industry.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of governing codes and ability to interpret and apply project specifications.
