Overview
The Sterilization Specialist at Fakeeh Care Group is responsible for the thorough decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that all equipment meets hygiene standards and is available for patient care and surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and inspect used surgical instruments and equipment for cleaning.
- Perform manual cleaning of instruments using appropriate detergents and disinfectants.
- Operate and maintain decontamination machines such as ultrasonic cleaners and washers.
- Assemble surgical sets and medical equipment following protocols.
- Package instruments properly for sterilization with correct wrapping, labeling, and documentation.
- Inspect instruments for wear or damage and report issues promptly.
- Operate sterilization equipment like autoclaves according to guidelines and internal policies.
- Monitor and record sterilization cycles including time, temperature, and pressure parameters.
- Conduct routine biological, chemical, and mechanical tests to verify sterilization efficiency.
- Store sterilized instruments securely, maintaining proper inventory rotation and controls.
- Distribute sterilized supplies to operating rooms and other departments as necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of sterilization workflows and inventory.
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure workplace safety.
- Perform regular equipment maintenance, calibration checks, and participate in quality improvement activities.
- Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors without delay.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as Joint Commission, OSHA, and internal policies.
- Engage in continuous professional development and attend mandatory trainings.
- Communicate compassionately and supportively with patients and staff.

Necessary Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a certified sterilization technician in a complex clinical tertiary center.
- Familiarity with Performance Improvement Processes and International Standards.
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Health Science or related discipline.
- Certification or diploma in sterile processing and sterilization.
- Excellent verbal and written English skills.
- Service-oriented with keen attention to detail and strong critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Licenses include country of origin license, regional health regulatory authority license (e.g., SCFHS, DHA), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and other relevant life support training courses.
