Overview

Join V/Line as a permanent full-time Signaller based in Kilmore East, Victoria. V/Line is dedicated to connecting Victorians through safe and reliable transport services, delivering over 3700 weekly train and coach journeys. This role involves managing train movements within a designated control area to ensure safe and efficient rail operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate signalling systems, points, and signals in line with rail safety rules to manage train movements safely within the control zone.
  • Collaborate with Train Control, adjacent networks, maintenance teams, and workgroups to coordinate safe and effective rail services.
  • Identify and report signalling faults, oversee track access protections, and maintain accurate operational records.
  • Manage the security, cleanliness, and readiness of signalling and station facilities.
  • Provide excellent customer service by delivering timely travel information, assisting during service disruptions, and resolving passenger inquiries.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by recognising risks, reporting incidents, and ensuring a safe workplace for employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders constructively, embrace continuous improvement, and uphold V/Line’s values and behaviours.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, regulatory mandates, and integrity standards in daily operations.

Location and Working Conditions

This position is based onsite at Kilmore East. Due to the critical nature and fatigue management needs, applicants should live within an 80 kilometres or one hour radius of Kilmore East. The role requires participation in a rotating roster across a 38-hour week including weekends, public holidays, and morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

Candidate Profile

We seek a detail-oriented operator with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities who can make quick and accurate decisions in time-pressured situations. Excellent communication and reasoning skills are essential. The ability to learn and adhere to safe working procedures on the job is key.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Hold a valid Victorian driver's license.
  • Reside within 80 kilometres of Kilmore East and be able to travel between sites daily.
  • On-the-job training provided if not already qualified in Automatic Block Signalling, Section 37 Block Signalling for Double Lines, Train Order System, and Section 34 Operating Procedures (location-specific).
