Role Overview
The Short-Form Video Editor is a full-time position located in Nashville, TN, with occasional travel to Cumberland Furnace, TN. Reporting to the Chief Creative Officer and the Human School Executive Producer, this role involves transforming lengthy podcast conversations into captivating short clips that resonate and engage viewers across social platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze full episode transcripts and raw footage to select 5–7 engaging clip segments per episode, including timestamp annotations and proposed caption angles.
- Edit short videos ranging from 0 to 90 seconds tailored for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, ensuring high-quality pacing, sound design, captions, and visuals.
- Create multiple edited versions of the same segment experimenting with hooks, pacing, and openers; utilize performance analytics to refine content.
- Establish a continuous feedback loop by comparing published clips' performance with future editing choices.
- Collaborate with the team during pre-production by reviewing guest insights to anticipate engaging clip moments.
- Stay informed about trends in short-form content, including platform-specific editing techniques, sound, and music selections.
- Work independently on a consistent weekly production schedule, addressing creative and technical challenges.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years editing short-form video content, preferably within podcasts, media brands, or storytelling-driven creators/companies.
- Demonstrated ability to extract and craft emotionally impactful moments from long-form interview material supported by a portfolio.
- Experience managing rapid content production cycles, ideally weekly or faster publishing frequencies.
- Strong understanding of storytelling structure, pacing, and the rationale behind effective clip creation.
- Comfortable starting edits by reviewing transcripts before diving into raw footage.
- A mindset geared toward experimentation: proficient with A/B testing and leveraging performance data to guide edits.
- Skilled in Premiere Pro or comparable professional video editing software.
- Candidates from diverse backgrounds encouraged; additional skills such as videography, motion graphics, familiarity with Descript or Riverside, or a personal interest in emotional wellness content are advantageous but not required.
