Role Overview
The Senior Laboratory Scientist position is a full-time onsite role located in Brisbane, Queensland. This role involves leading and carrying out complex experimental laboratory work focused on pathogen detection and diagnostic assay development. Responsibilities include devising and implementing experimental protocols, operating and maintaining various lab instruments, accurately collecting, analyzing, and documenting data. The scientist will oversee quality control processes, troubleshoot technical challenges, and support the validation and verification of diagnostic assays.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and supervise infectious disease molecular diagnostic testing.
- Complete analytical and clinical experiments in alignment with regulatory standards.
- Analyze and report data according to compliance requirements.
- Conduct troubleshooting experiments and provide solutions.
- Assist in implementing and verifying new testing methods and technologies.
- Manage laboratory resources, including consumables.
- Contribute to activities ensuring laboratory accreditation compliance.
Required Skills and Experience
- Extensive expertise in aseptic microbiology practices.
- Advanced proficiency with a comprehensive range of molecular biology techniques, including manual and automated DNA/RNA extraction, quantitation, and real-time PCR/qPCR.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and experience in designing, implementing, analyzing, and reporting scientific research.
- Ability to independently conduct research studies and coordinate data processing and interpretation.
- Capability to work with minimal supervision and efficiently adjust to shifting priorities.
- Experience preparing and updating documentation such as SOPs, test instructions, protocols, specifications, and reports for product/process improvements.
- Exceptional organizational skills and commitment to meeting deadlines consistently.
- Proactive decision-making and negotiation skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail with excellent scientific writing and record-keeping skills.
- Background in clinical or medical microbiology.
- Strong emphasis on quality, accuracy, and precision in laboratory work.
- Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
- Active interest in current and emerging equipment technologies and trends.
