About the Opportunity

Bureau Veritas is seeking multiple Sample Preparation Technicians to join our mineral laboratory based in Whitehorse, Yukon. This full-time, long-term role offers steady, hands-on work where safety, precision, and teamwork are highly valued. You will be responsible for preparing geological samples including rock and soil by processes such as sorting, labeling, crushing, pulverizing, sieving, and packaging. No previous lab experience is necessary as comprehensive training on procedures, safety, and equipment usage will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, verify, label, and organize incoming geological samples.
• Prepare samples by crushing, pulverizing, and sieving according to established protocols.
• Process samples accurately and efficiently following lab priorities.
• Scan and track samples, equipment, quality control checks, and packaged boxes.
• Perform and document quality inspections during sample preparation.
• Stop operations and report immediately any quality or safety concerns to supervisors.
• Operate, clean, and maintain sample preparation machinery.
• Report any equipment issues or maintenance needs promptly.
• Safely move samples and materials within the lab environment.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
• Wear required personal protective equipment and adhere to health, safety, quality, and ISO standards.
• Contribute ideas to enhance safety, quality, or efficiency in the workplace.
• Undertake other related tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions

This role involves active, physical tasks within an industrial laboratory focused on mineral sample preparation supporting the mining sector. Expect repetitive manual activities, standing for extended periods, frequent lifting of materials between 20 to 50 pounds, and operating around industrial lab equipment while consistently using personal protective equipment.

Candidate Requirements

• Completion of high school or equivalent education is required.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions in English relating to safety and procedures.
• Capable of regularly lifting and handling materials weighing approximately 20 to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable with repetitive physical labor throughout shifts.
• Organized with good time management skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to follow accurate procedures.
• Self-motivated to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Dependable, respectful, and eager to learn.
• Committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace with diverse perspectives.

Preferred but Not Essential Experience

• Experience operating industrial or heavy equipment.
• Background in mineral processing or sample preparation laboratories.
• Work experience in manufacturing, production, warehousing, construction, mining, or other physically demanding industries.

Work Schedules and Compensation

• Available shifts include day (6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday), overnight (5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., Monday to Thursday), weekend day (7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.), and weekend night (7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.).
• Additional pay premiums apply for certain shifts.
• Base hourly wage is $20.51.

This position is classified within National Occupational Classification 95100 (Labourers in Mineral and Metal Processing). It does not guarantee support through the Yukon Nominee Program. After at least one year of employment, exceptional candidates may be considered on a discretionary, case-by-case basis with limited annual opportunities available. Candidates should not depend on nomination support being provided.
