Role Overview
As a Route Merchandiser, you will manage the servicing and restocking of vending machines and market locations, deliver office coffee service (OCS) orders, and uphold equipment cleanliness standards. Utilizing a company vehicle and device, you will maintain precise inventory records, ensure correct product rotation by monitoring expiration dates, and accurately reconcile all route-related cash transactions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed inventory for various categories: beverages, packaged foods, fresh products, and snacks.
- Conduct counts and place orders according to established guidelines; perform complete inventory audits when necessary.
- Restock displays such as shelves, coolers, and coffee stations while ensuring proper rotation and adherence to tracking procedures.
- Identify and remove expired or rejected goods, documenting appropriately.
- Handle loading and unloading of merchandise safely, employing proper techniques and equipment.
- Deliver products using company vehicles, ensuring perishable items are properly refrigerated throughout transit and stocking.
- Plan and optimize routes for efficiency to minimize drive time and enhance productivity.
- Monitor refrigeration units to ensure proper temperature maintenance and report anomalies.
- Collect funds from kiosks and vending machines, adhering strictly to cash handling and loss prevention protocols; keep accurate records of all transactions.
- Observe and report any safety, security, or suspicious activity in assigned areas.
- Perform cleaning tasks for coffee machines, microwaves, coolers, shelves, racks, counters, floors, windows, and adjacent spaces to maintain a neat and professional environment.
- Inspect product quality and presentation, report stale or defective items, and ensure final area checks meet company standards.
- Request technical support for equipment issues when required.
- Provide training to new Route Merchandisers if assigned, based on regional needs.
- Complete miscellaneous assignments and projects as requested.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record, fulfilling all Department of Transportation (DOT) criteria, plus successful completion of background and driving history checks.
- Chauffeur's license where applicable.
- Previous experience in delivery, route driving, merchandising, or customer service preferred.
- Effective communication skills in English—ability to read, speak, and comprehend.
- Computer literacy with proficiency on devices such as iPads, GPS systems, and inventory software; experience operating box trucks favored.
- Ability to operate pallet jacks if required regionally.
- Strong results-driven mindset, adaptable, detail-focused, professional, and capable of following both written and verbal directives.
