About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Robotics Software Engineer passionate about creating intelligent autonomous systems and tackling challenging engineering problems. You will work in a dynamic setting, owning technical issues from initial diagnosis through deployment. Collaboration across software, hardware, and product teams is crucial to deliver robust robotic solutions.
This position involves writing software that operates on real robots functioning in industrial environments, contributing to the advancement of autonomous mobile robotics and industrial automation on a large scale.
Success Milestones
- Within 3 months: Gain familiarity with the MAG AMR technology stack, including codebase, development tools, and CI/CD pipelines; independently fix bugs and add minor features; actively participate in code reviews with valuable feedback; confidently conduct field testing and analyze robot behavior.
- Within 6 months: Take ownership of a major module such as navigation, SLAM, or state machines; deliver measurable enhancements to navigation and localization in live deployments; independently troubleshoot complex runtime issues; collaborate efficiently with hardware, software, and product teams.
- Within 12 months: Lead architectural decisions on core autonomous mobile robot software elements; ensure reliability of your algorithms in production deployment; become recognized as an expert in at least one robotics domain; mentor junior engineers and enhance team quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, develop, and thoroughly test algorithms for the MAG AMR software platform
- Improve navigation algorithms focusing on planning, path tracking, and motion control
- Develop SLAM solutions to meet mapping and localization needs
- Create and implement robust AMR state machine behaviors and error management
- Maintain software security by performing vulnerability assessments
- Produce and update clear documentation for the codebase and development processes
- Conduct peer reviews to uphold coding and engineering standards
- Work collaboratively with distributed teams to debug and refine solutions
- Participate in on-site robot deployments and field testing activities
- Coordinate with product teams to ensure user documentation is accurate and up to date
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related disciplines
- Proficient programming skills in C++ and Python, delivering clean and efficient code
- Experience working with ROS and ROS2 robotic middleware
- Comfortable using Linux-based development environments, primarily Ubuntu
- Demonstrated practical experience in robotics development, with hands-on experience in building robots considered advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with focus on root cause analysis
- Self-motivated, quick learner capable of working independently
- Preferred: Broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software systems integration
