Role Overview
As a Road Worker - Plant Operator, you will engage in various maintenance and construction activities within road reserves, including drainage, concreting, paving, earthworks, and asphalting. This full-time ongoing position operates on a 9-day fortnight schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate diverse plant machinery relevant to maintenance and construction such as graders, tractors with combination rollers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and water trucks.
- Set up signage in compliance with designated traffic guidance schemes.
- Maintain all health and safety standards on-site, ensuring adherence to OH&S requirements.
- Conduct routine servicing and maintenance of plant equipment to guarantee safe, effective operation.
- Manage traffic during events, including occasional weekend shifts.
- Perform all tasks with a focus on quality, safety, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency.
Candidate Profile
- Proven skills and experience in road maintenance or civil construction.
- Competent operation of various construction machinery including trucks, water carts, rollers, tractors, and skid steers.
- Strong awareness and application of occupational health and safety principles.
- Ability to collaborate in teams and work under supervision, emphasizing excellent customer service.
- Effective communication skills with ability to maintain accurate written and electronic records.
- Familiarity with traffic control and work zone safety procedures.
Mandatory Requirements
- Successful pre-employment medical examination.
- Satisfactory police clearance.
- Current driver’s license including Heavy Rigid (HR) endorsement.
- Possession of a Construction Induction Card (formerly Red Card).
- Preferred possession of current worksite traffic management and traffic controller certification.
Working Conditions
Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with variations based on operational demand. The work schedule follows a 9-day fortnight with a rotational day off. The role is based at the City of Greater Bendigo’s Adam Street depot in Golden Square, requiring travel across the city’s service area.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary of $68,201 per year including industry allowance and superannuation, equivalent to an hourly base rate of $34.51.
