Role Overview
The Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Engineer ensures mechanical systems, including piping and HVAC components, meet rigorous quality and safety standards throughout fabrication and installation. This includes thorough inspections of materials, welds, joints, and final assemblies to confirm compliance with engineering plans, industry codes, and regulations. Collaborating closely with engineering and construction teams, the engineer identifies quality concerns, implements corrective measures, and maintains comprehensive documentation. An AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with QA/QC leadership and inspectors, offering guidance, support, and training to enhance inspection effectiveness.
- Engage actively in quality inspections to ensure adherence to specifications, codes, and safety requirements.
- Communicate openly regarding assistance or teamwork to promote efficient task execution.
- Participate in paired inspections when required for safety or procedural reasons, coordinating efforts for optimal efficiency.
- Manage mechanical system inspections and verify compliance with project and industry standards.
- Document any defects or deviations found during inspections and initiate corrective actions.
- Maintain precise inspection records, test results, and non-conformance reports.
- Review and confirm inspection test outcomes.
- Prepare and disseminate relevant documentation and updates to management and field personnel promptly.
- Work alongside QA/QC managers, field crews, project leaders, shop managers, and subcontractors to resolve quality issues.
- Monitor safety compliance alongside quality and contract obligations.
- Assist project teams in addressing quality challenges collaboratively.
- Offer insights on quality improvement during project meetings and recommend process enhancements.
- Keep current with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Support a safety-centered work environment through hazard reporting and incident participation.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in construction-related quality control or inspections, focusing on mechanical systems.
- Certification as a Welding Inspector (AWS CWI) strongly preferred; related quality control or construction inspection training valued.
- Extensive knowledge of construction codes, standards, and pipe/line drawings.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a dedication to quality excellence.
- Strong communication abilities and teamwork orientation.
- Proficiency with inspection equipment and software tools, including Procore, Trimble, MS Word/Excel, Bluebeam, and Adobe.
- Capability to work autonomously, make informed decisions, and mentor QC team members.
- Effective problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset toward quality assurance.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification combined with relevant experience.
