About the Role
Join us at BORN GmbH to pioneer the next wave of innovation in smart textiles and soft robotic technologies. Operating through MotorSkins and the Smart Textile Hub, we fuse expertise in technical flat-knit textiles, electronics, and soft robotics to create groundbreaking products. This position is based in Berlin, where the combined team leverages a spectrum of client projects and European R&D ventures to push the frontiers from initial research to industrial production.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and refine functional prototypes, demonstrators, and minimum viable products (MVPs).
- Integrate embedded electronics seamlessly within textile-based systems.
- Assess, select, and incorporate sensors, actuators, inflatable components like pumps and valves.
- Construct, test rigorously, and iterate on prototypes to improve performance.
- Work hands-on with smart textiles, inflatable constructs, and relevant manufacturing techniques.
- Contribute technically to industrial and European research & development projects.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, experimental reports, and deliverables.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Product Development, Design Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 2 to 5 years of experience focused on R&D, product design, or advanced prototyping.
- A passion for hands-on creation of physical systems and translating concepts into tangible prototypes.
- Comfortable navigating interdisciplinary domains spanning electronics, mechanics, and textiles.
- Self-motivated, inquisitive, proactive, and ready to assume ownership.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
