About the Role
We are seeking a Production Supervisor (Group Lead) for our client based in Galway. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the manufacturing workflow to consistently meet production goals while ensuring top-quality standards and ongoing cost reduction. This leadership role involves managing a team within the manufacturing department to drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet production, safety, and quality objectives by establishing, enforcing, and enhancing standard operating procedures and promptly addressing root causes of operational issues.
- Maintain productivity levels efficiently in terms of staffing, manpower scheduling, and overtime control; proactively introduce productivity and cost-saving initiatives.
- Organize and optimize materials delivery methods, layout, and presentation; collaborate with the team to set targets and monitor line feed quantities and frequencies.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, including managing the 5S program via regular audits, reporting, and resolution of issues within assigned areas.
- Track, measure, and display cell performance metrics; effectively solve problems in a dynamic environment using problem-solving methodologies to protect and enhance key indicators.
- Foster team development by cultivating problem-solving skills, encouraging idea generation, and implementing continuous improvement projects.
- Plan and forecast manpower needs in collaboration with HR; participate directly in recruitment and establish training and development plans for new hires.
- Coordinate resource allocation to meet daily production targets; manage leave, absences, and related administration.
- Develop, refine, and distribute work assignments; ensure procedures and work instructions accurately describe operational activities.
- Promote a cooperative and fair team environment to encourage positive employee engagement and teamwork.
- Maintain daily two-way communication with team members, providing feedback on production, quality, costs, and team performance; listen actively and give corrective feedback as necessary.
- Conduct performance reviews within the first year of employment and hold regular development discussions to capture and action growth objectives with HR support.
- Manage grievances and disciplinary matters in partnership with HR.
- Collaborate with Training Specialists to assess new training needs arising from new product integrations or ongoing requirements through training needs analysis and plan development.
- Oversee machinery and related operations, control budgets for consumables, and ensure maintenance activities are carried out efficiently.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Production Supervisor or equivalent supervisory role.
- Third level qualification in business, engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience working with various manufacturing machinery and tools.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Experience collaborating with labor unions is highly advantageous.
- Excellent organizational capabilities and strong leadership qualities with a results-oriented mindset.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-driven with efficient problem-solving skills.
