Job description

Overview

Join one of Canada's leading asset managers as a Platform Engineering Manager within our Information Systems team. We focus on building strong, integrated technology platforms that empower investment, operations, and client-facing teams through reliability and efficiency. This managerial position involves hands-on leadership guiding a team dedicated to system integration, automation, and control foundational to systematic investment operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and work closely with a small team of engineers specializing in platform system integration and reliability.
  • Establish practical engineering standards for observability, service level objectives (SLOs), incident management, deployment safety, infrastructure as code, and production readiness.
  • Architect and enhance resilient integrations across APIs, event streams, batch file transfers, data workflows, vendor platforms, and hybrid or cloud environments.
  • Develop infrastructure supporting systematic investment middle and back-office functions including workflow orchestration, data quality controls, reconciliations, exception handling, data lineage, and audit trails.
  • Create automation and AIOps solutions to minimize manual interventions, improve incident detection and recovery, and ensure production safety.
  • Take leadership in resolving the most complex incidents related to reliability, integration, and production control.
  • Collaborate with investment, operations, risk, data, applications, infrastructure, and vendor teams to implement reusable and reliable engineering patterns.
  • Enhance observability by improving signal quality, reducing noise, and shortening the time needed to detect and remediate incidents.
  • Exhibit calm, authoritative technical leadership particularly during difficult system incidents.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong hands-on expertise in at least two areas: site reliability engineering, platform engineering, observability, systems integration, production data engineering, release engineering, or automation in production.
  • Experience with production observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, ELK/OpenSearch, or Azure Monitor.
  • Solid grasp of distributed systems and integration patterns including API design, event-driven architecture, batch/file processing, data flows, failure handling, idempotency, and vendor interactions.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerization, orchestration tools, and modern deployment methodologies.
  • Background in infrastructure design, controls, and automation relevant to investment management, middle/back-office operations, enterprise data platforms, or other highly available, regulated contexts.
  • Good judgement on managing data quality, reconciliation, exception handling, lineage, audit requirements, and release governance without compromising delivery efficiency.
  • Experience in engineering leadership through design reviews, mentorship, pairing, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with orchestration and process management tools like ServiceNow, Camunda, Temporal, Argo, Airflow, Dagster, dbt, or Celonis is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of systematic investment, trading workflows, portfolio management, IBOR/ABOR systems, and vendor platforms such as SimCorp, BlackRock Aladdin, or Arcesium is desirable.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure), data technologies (Snowflake, Databricks), cloud-native monitoring, operational data platforms, automation frameworks, and AI/AIOps use cases is a plus.

Compensation and Additional Information

The base salary range for this role is CAD 140,000 to 160,000 annually, supplemented by an annual performance bonus contributing to total compensation. This position supports a hybrid work environment combining remote and in-office days.
