About the Team
The City Development Branch within the Planning, Regulation and Services department of City of Gold Coast manages and evaluates customer development applications. Their responsibilities include offering planning and building guidance, assessing developments and improvements, reviewing infrastructure changes, developer contributions, infrastructure compliance, planning appeals, and conducting planning research. The Planning Assessment Unit handles the review of various development applications except major developments, change applications, superseded planning requests, access easements, and volumetric subdivisions, alongside compliance checks of survey plans for plan sealing.
Role Overview
The Planner role involves providing professional assistance to ensure city development aligns with current planning regulations, environmental principles, and guidelines. The Planner will support developers, consultants, council staff, government bodies, and the public in complying with the Corporate Plan, City Plan, relevant legislation, and Council policies. Multiple openings are available under the general direction of the Coordinator Development Assessment, with supervision varying by experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster a positive workplace culture through productive teamwork to achieve favorable outcomes for the city.
- Evaluate Material Change of Use (MCU) and Reconfiguring a Lot (ROL) development applications in compliance with legislation and City Plan.
- Draft planning reports that offer comprehensive, logical assessments of development applications according to applicable laws and the City Plan.
- Deliver high-quality customer service with prompt communication responding to queries both verbal and written.
- Interact with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Provide general planning advice and guide customers to appropriate resources as necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Town Planning or possess equivalent expertise.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, and adaptability to a dynamic work environment.
- Possess well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including negotiation, consultation, and presentation capabilities.
- Have strong research, analytical, and investigative skills to find relevant facts, gather information and propose practical solutions.
- Work effectively independently and collaboratively within team settings, fostering positive relationships.
- Manage multiple priorities efficiently within a planning context.
- Provide exceptional service to internal and external customers, appropriately meeting their expectations.
- Be proficient in using technology and quick to adapt to new systems and processes.
