Personal Support Worker – Nursing Care

Overview

This position is based in Little Current, Ontario, Canada and requires on-site presence with no remote work option. Candidates should be willing to relocate to the area. The work environment is within a nursing home or home for the aged, with staff accommodation available.

Languages

English proficiency is required.

Education and Certification

• Completion of a college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma program lasting 1 to 2 years.
• Possession of relevant healthcare certifications such as Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), First Aid, CPR, Nursing Aide, Health Care Aide, or Personal Support Worker Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Providing personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and assisting with hygiene.
• Supplying and emptying bedpans as needed.
• Measuring vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
• Serving meals and assisting patients with feeding.
• Weighing, lifting, turning, and repositioning patients.
• Making beds and maintaining cleanliness in patient rooms.
• Transporting patients using wheelchairs or stretchers.
• Collecting specimens for medical purposes.
• Administering first aid during emergencies.
• Providing companionship and emotional support to clients.
• Performing light housekeeping tasks including laundering clothing and household linens.

Additional Requirements

• Completion of a criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, and submission of immunization records.
• Tuberculosis testing and provision of references are mandatory.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Fast-paced and physically demanding environment requiring standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks, and a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
• Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure are essential.
