About the Payroll Team

The Payroll Department at Sigma Healthcare plays a vital role in servicing over 20,000 employees across Sigma Healthcare and Chemist Warehouse. As part of the People Business Unit, the team ensures the delivery of precise, compliant, and prompt payroll operations covering stores, distribution centers, and support offices nationwide.

Following the merger of Sigma Healthcare and Chemist Warehouse, this period marks an exciting phase of organisational growth, presenting an opportunity to enhance payroll processes while collaborating with a skilled team that prioritizes accuracy, teamwork, excellent customer care, and ongoing improvements.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Payroll Manager, the Payroll Officer contributes to the timely and accurate processing of payroll. Responsibilities include updating employee records, performing audits, managing diverse payroll transactions, and serving as a trusted contact for payroll inquiries from employees and stakeholders.

This role suits individuals with prior payroll experience who thrive in dynamic environments and seek to further develop technical payroll expertise within a sizeable and sophisticated organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine payroll and direct payment reports to ensure employees are paid accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain and update payroll system records, keeping employee data current, compliant, and precise.
  • Address payroll queries, delivering clear guidance and solutions to employees and stakeholders.
  • Execute payments through online banking platforms with meticulous attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Carry out regular audits on annual leave, personal leave, and long service leave aligned with legislation and agreements.
  • Process complex payroll transactions, such as back pay, lump sum E payments, and superannuation adjustments.
  • Keep thorough payroll and personnel records supporting internal compliance requirements.
  • Provide outstanding customer service in collaboration with stores, distribution centers, support office teams, and business partners.
  • Identify and propose enhancements to payroll processes, accuracy, and service delivery.
  • Assist fellow Payroll team members when needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in payroll or similar administrative roles, preferably within a large or complex organisation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to process data accurately.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Customer-focused mindset with professional handling of employee and stakeholder enquiries.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining composure during payroll deadlines.
  • A proactive, eager-to-learn attitude and teamwork orientation.
  • Understanding of payroll compliance, including relevant awards, agreements, and legislation.
  • Experience with payroll software such as PayGlobal or UKG Pro Time & Attendance systems, advanced Excel skills, financial literacy, or healthcare sector exposure is advantageous.
