Job Overview

The Payroll Coordinator plays a crucial role in facilitating Lagoon's payroll and accounting activities. Key responsibilities involve the precise processing of hourly payroll, upkeep of payroll and financial records, and administrative support to the Accounting Department. The role requires monitoring employee timekeeping, preparing payroll data, entering information into payroll and accounting software, and collaborating with various departments for payroll-related functions. Confidential handling of employee and financial data in compliance with Lagoon's policies and relevant laws is essential.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Daily review of employee timecards and communication with department heads regarding necessary adjustments, approvals, and payroll timelines.
  • Assist in managing Lagoon's semi-monthly payroll for hourly staff by verifying payroll data and preparing files for processing.
  • Address payroll inquiries and timekeeping discrepancies by coordinating with employees, supervisors, employee services, and managers.
  • Record maintenance and construction labor hours in work orders for accurate labor cost allocation.
  • Coordinate closing and documentation distribution of completed work orders with Maintenance and Construction teams.
  • Issue manual and replacement payroll checks as required.
  • Manage employee garnishments by liaising with payroll processors, keeping records, and ensuring proper withholding and payments.
  • Support daily receipts management, generation of management reports, and other accounting-related tasks to promote accurate financial reporting.
  • Handle delivery and collection of accounting documents across departments.
  • Prepare bank deposits, including cash and checks, as delegated.
  • Input month-end inventory data into accounting systems for valuation purposes.
  • Sort, distribute, and prepare incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Provide back-up support for Accounts Payable and Administrative Receptionist roles as necessary.
  • Maintain organized, confidential records related to payroll, accounting, and personnel.
  • Assist in managing 401(k) and Profit Sharing documentation.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all sensitive company and employee information.
  • Support team cross-training and assist other Accounting Department members as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years or older.
  • Preferred experience in payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or office administration.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail ensuring high accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information prudently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with an aptitude for juggling multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiarity with payroll and accounting software is a plus.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within team environments.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and customers.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays per business requirements.

Work Environment

  • Predominantly office-based work involving frequent computer use and extended sitting periods.
  • Regular movement across various park locations for meetings, departmental support, and operational assistance.
  • Exposure to typical amusement park conditions such as extreme temperatures, wind, dust, precipitation, bright or flashing lights, noise, crowds, and other environmental factors.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for long durations at a computer workstation.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, operating equipment, and document handling.
  • Clear verbal communication in person and via telephone.
  • Required visual capabilities include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and adaptability of focus.
  • Ability to stand and walk regularly between departments and meetings.
  • Ability to safely traverse up to one mile within the park premises as needed.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
