Job description

About The Flat Lay Co.

The Flat Lay Co. is a London-based beauty accessories company established in 2017 dedicated to revolutionizing everyday routines through clever design. Originating with the Flat Lay Makeup Bag, the brand has expanded internationally and is stocked by top retailers such as Boots, Sephora UK, and ASOS, also featured in prominent publications like Vogue and Elle. All products are designed at their London studio focusing on functional and calming organization solutions for beauty routines.

The company fosters a driven and collaborative culture where every individual’s input significantly impacts the business, encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and teamwork.

Role Overview

The Flat Lay Co. is seeking a detail-oriented Merchandiser passionate about numbers to manage merchandise comprehensively. This includes controlling stock levels between UK and US warehouses, analyzing sales across Direct-to-Consumer (D2C), Amazon, and wholesale channels internationally, and interpreting product performance to support new product development and assortment planning. This part-time position offers flexible scheduling with a mandatory day in the London office on Tuesdays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain SKU-by-market demand forecasts by integrating sales team retailer input with D2C and Amazon data.
  • Create and oversee purchase plans consistent with open-to-buy (OTB) budgets.
  • Define and adjust target inventory cover and reorder points per SKU and sales channel.
  • Coordinate demand planning for new product launches, collaborations, and exclusive offerings with design and sales teams.
  • Revise forecasts dynamically as sales evolve, alerting the team early to any deviations from plan.
  • Collaborate with Operations Director to integrate purchase plans with OTB and cash flow management.
  • Manage stock across all channels and markets, reviewing inventory statuses, identifying risks, and preventing surplus or shortages at the SKU level.
  • Model alternative stock scenarios responding to business opportunities or changes.
  • Reallocate stock between markets/channels to maximize sales and minimize dead inventory.
  • Serve as the main contact for stock-related inquiries within the team.
  • Produce weekly and monthly sales updates highlighting product performance, promotional opportunities, and clearance needs.
  • Partner with sales representatives to align stock management with campaign and product launch strategies.
  • Generate quarterly comprehensive product performance analyses to influence range and new product decisions.
  • Design, maintain, and enhance forecasting and reporting tools essential for business operations.
  • Keep all documentation and tracking tools current and accessible for team use.
  • Continuously seek process improvements in reporting, tracking, and reconciliation, supporting suggested changes with business cases.

Candidate Profile

  • Highly proficient with spreadsheets and building efficient tools to optimize workflows.
  • Capable of analyzing sales data both commercially and from a customer behavior perspective.
  • Independent and accountable for results, with the ability to alert the team proactively about risks.
  • Confident communicating numerical insights to cross-functional teams including sales, ecommerce, design, and supply chain.
  • Adaptable to shifting priorities and quick decision-making.
  • Self-motivated and innovative, routinely seeking and suggesting improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of four years’ experience in merchandising or inventory planning, preferably within consumer goods, fashion, beauty, or accessories sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels.
  • Familiarity with inventory management software; experience with Unleashed and Xero systems is advantageous.
  • Bonus skills include managing multi-market or multi-warehouse stock and exposure to US retail or third-party logistics operations.
