Position Summary
We have an urgent opening for an Assistant Packaging Manager specializing in Development and Procurement, located in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Candidates from across India willing to relocate are welcome to apply. The role offers a salary range from 5 to 9 LPA.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage entire lifecycle of packaging development projects including concept ideation, designing briefs, prototyping, vendor sample evaluation, validation, and commercial launch.
- Champion packaging innovation efforts by assessing novel materials, sustainable alternatives, and other new substrate options.
- Collaborate closely with departments such as Marketing, Design, Production, and Quality Assurance alongside suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of projects.
- Oversee specifications, approvals, documentation, and maintenance of Bill of Materials pertinent to packaging.
- Lead sourcing and procurement initiatives for all packaging materials to guarantee competitive commercial terms.
- Develop and onboard new vendors, ensuring alternative supplier networks for key packaging components.
- Negotiate pricing structures, commercial agreements, and payment terms while driving ongoing cost-saving programs year after year.
- Monitor purchase orders, supplier effectiveness, on-time delivery (OTD), quality of incoming materials, and manage necessary corrective measures.
- Plan procurement strategies to reduce emergency purchases and ensure consistent supply chain flow.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Possess 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in packaging development, innovation, material procurement, or related fields.
- Background in industries such as FMCG, Food & Beverage, Consumer Goods, Personal Care, Home Care, Packaging Manufacturing or similar.
- In-depth knowledge of diverse packaging materials including flexible films, corrugated packaging, rigid plastics, glass, labels, cartons, closures, laminates, and other substrates.
- Understanding of technical aspects like packaging specifications, GSM & Micron metrics, barrier properties, Bill of Materials management, and printing techniques including Flexography, Gravure, and Offset.
- Proven skills in vendor development, supplier qualification, strategic sourcing, commercial negotiation, and procurement planning with a focus on cost optimization and savings.
- Strong analytical capability with expertise in advanced Excel functionalities, procurement tracking, reporting, and supplier scorecards.
- Educational qualifications include a Diploma or Postgraduate Diploma in Packaging (like from IIP) preferred; alternatively, a degree such as B.E./B.Tech in Packaging, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Print Technology or equivalent experience is required.
