Job description

About the Role

Auckland Airport operates within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment where operational excellence, compliance, and workforce capability are essential each day. We are looking for a seasoned professional to take charge as the Operations Training and Standards Manager, responsible for developing, executing, and continuously enhancing training frameworks throughout the operations unit.

Key Duties

  • Oversee Auckland Airport's Operations Training and Standards department, collaborating closely with leadership to assess capability gaps and advance existing training programs.
  • Introduce and optimize modern learning solutions, including e-learning, online content, blended learning approaches, simulations, and on-the-job training methodologies.
  • Provide support in updating the training framework for the AES fire team, guaranteeing alignment with current policies, regulatory standards, and industry requirements.
  • Design and deliver training encompassing regulatory, technical, functional, and career progression topics.
  • Maintain and update training materials, standards, and assessments ensuring audit-readiness and compliance.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies in training delivery, systems, and processes.
  • Lead and develop a team of trainers, managing aspects like performance, engagement, and attendance.
  • Manage budgets, contractual agreements, suppliers, and external training programs effectively.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Rescue Fire Training Centre and AES fire training initiatives.
  • Foster strong collaborations across multiple departments including Operations, People & Capability, Health and Safety, regulatory bodies, emergency services, and training providers.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven senior-level experience in training, learning and development, operational capability, or training standards within operational settings.
  • Background in aviation or airport operations training is preferred.
  • Expertise in establishing or refining strategic training frameworks within operational environments.
  • Thorough knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and competency-based training methodologies.
  • Experience with technical e-learning development and online content creation.
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance training frameworks to improve consistency, outcomes, and efficiency.
  • Strong leadership abilities, capable of managing team performance and engagement.
  • Skilled in managing training budgets, vendor contracts, and external training service providers.
  • In-depth understanding of compliance, policies, procedures, standards, and requirements in regulated or safety-critical workplaces.
  • Hands-on operational experience within a regulated and safety-centric context.
