About the Role
The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation is looking for a dedicated full-time Operations Manager to oversee and enhance the Food4Schools program. This role involves managing the entire operational framework to ensure that thousands of students consistently receive nutritious meals. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will supervise procurement, food production, inventory, warehousing, transportation, and logistics, aiming to strengthen and expand this vital community initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end operations from sourcing through food prep and delivery, ensuring smooth daily workflows across multiple sites.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures to uphold quality, safety, and uniform practices.
- Monitor performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Establish scalable systems and reporting tools to monitor and support program growth and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the Kitchen Lead to facilitate efficient kitchen operations and food handling aligned with program goals.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards, maintain documentation, conduct training, and liaise with regulators.
- Manage procurement processes, supplier relations, and inventory monitoring to optimize costs and reduce waste.
- Lead and develop staff and volunteers to foster a culture of accountability and shared mission commitment.
- Oversee transportation logistics, vehicle maintenance, and equipment management to ensure operational reliability.
- Provide regular reports and collaborate with teams and partners to align operations with strategic objectives.
Candidate Profile
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in operations management, food systems, logistics, or related fields.
- At least five years in progressively responsible operational leadership roles, preferably with food service or institutional programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage procurement, inventory, and supply chains.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hands-on experience with compliance and training.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving capabilities supported by proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational tracking tools.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence and physical ability to handle goods up to 50 lbs safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in FoodSafe Level 1 or 2 (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in nonprofit, school district, or community food programs.
- Familiarity with BC food safety regulations and best practices.
- Skilled in developing operational SOPs, managing budgets, and using inventory or logistics software.
- Background working with volunteers and community partnerships.
Compensation
The position offers an hourly wage ranging from CA$30 to CA$35.
