Network Engineer - Physical Network Infrastructure

Overview

As a Network Engineer in the Physical Network Infrastructure team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, operating, and enhancing the global network that supports TikTok's backbone, data centers, public cloud, and Edge/CDN. This role requires collaboration with diverse teams and external partners to drive network innovation and ensure optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, operate, and optimize TikTok's global network infrastructure including backbone, data center, and cloud networks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as compute, storage, and recommendation systems to foster network innovation and evolution.
• Engage with external vendors and ISPs to select network devices and carriers, and conduct thorough testing and validation.
• Participate in on-call rotation duties as part of the global network engineering team.
• Travel requirements may range between 15% to 30% of the time.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, and MPLS technologies.
• Familiarity with network monitoring protocols and tools such as SNMP, sFlow/netFlow, and telemetry.
• Understanding of data center network architectures like CLOS.
• Practical experience working with major network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Arista, Juniper, H3C, or Huawei.
• Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; or equivalent experience with over three years of relevant work history.
• Deep expertise in network protocols and implementations in hyperscale data center environments.
• Advanced knowledge of MPLS-related traffic engineering technologies such as Segment Routing, RSVP, and LDP.
• Understanding of public cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, Azure, Ali Cloud, OCI.
• Familiarity with commercial switch/router chipsets like Broadcom and Barefoot.
• Proficient in IPv6 and IPv4-IPv6 coexistence technologies.
• Programming or scripting experience in Python or other languages.
