About the Role
Mercor specializes in linking top-tier technical and creative experts with prominent AI research organizations. Based in San Francisco, its notable investors include high-profile figures like Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey.
This opportunity seeks contract molecular biology professionals to contribute remotely, aligning with a flexible schedule of up to 40 hours per week, compensated between $70 and $105 hourly.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and critically assess DNA/RNA sequences and related constructs such as primers, plasmids, guide RNAs, messenger RNA constructs, and DNA repair templates.
- Create complex, domain-specific design assignments and produce precise, well-documented benchmarks serving as ground truth data.
- Assess outputs generated by AI models against top-level expert solutions, delivering clear and detailed critiques regarding accuracy, scientific rigor, and biological rationale.
- Explain and rationalize sequence design decisions involving guide/target selection, parameters like homology-arm length, melting temperature and specificity of primers, codon usage optimization, and regulatory sequence choices.
- Partner with fellow subject-matter specialists to uphold uniformity and correctness in the preparation of training datasets.
Required Qualifications
- Currently active or recently active molecular biologist with hands-on experience in nucleic acid construct design.
- Distinguished record of peer-reviewed publications, notably as first author in leading journals such as Nature, Cell, eLife, Nucleic Acids Research, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, or the EMBO Journal.
- Holding a PhD is strongly favored, preferably in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or closely related life sciences disciplines.
- Exceptional written communication abilities with a capacity to clearly justify technical design choices.
