About the Role

Join the Thermo Fisher Scientific team in Singapore and contribute to advancing global health, environmental safety, and scientific innovation. As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will engage in the development of sophisticated scientific instruments and laboratory equipment. Collaborating with diverse teams, you will design and develop mechanical systems and components, ensuring innovation, manufacturability, reliability, and compliance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate conceptual proposals to support mechanical design reviews.
  • Create advanced 3D CAD models using tools such as SolidWorks and Pro-Engineer.
  • Develop modular designs and comprehensive product bill of materials.
  • Formulate sub-assembly test plans and compilation of test reports as required.
  • Integrate designs effectively into the overall mechanical architecture, ensuring adaptability and robustness.
  • Implement design improvements when necessary.
  • Collaborate with vendors regarding design for manufacturability and participate in cost negotiations to meet product cost targets.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of design-to-cost objectives within mechanical architecture.
  • Contribute to the R&D portal by sharing innovations and technology advancements.
  • Provide support for technology development initiatives when assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in mechanical design within product development lifecycle.
  • Proven involvement in at least one complete product lifecycle design project.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in designing components such as castings, machined parts, plastic molded items, and sheet metal with good Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.
  • Competency in basic to advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Project management capabilities.
  • Strong proficiency in mechanical design within medical or life sciences product R&D environments is preferred.
  • Experience with mechanism design principles.
  • Familiarity with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and thermal/flow simulations is advantageous.

  • Standard workweek from Monday to Friday.
