Overview
This role is based in the Support Services Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department at Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, part of Commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central. The position entails maintaining the grounds, buildings, fixtures, utilities, equipment, and facilities to ensure they remain in excellent working order, alongside repairing or replacing damaged or non-functioning equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow proper work procedures and ensure availability of plans, blueprints, tools, and materials; source required items from supply points as necessary.
- Use independent judgment to devise maintenance plans and solve problems effectively.
- Initiate and track maintenance trouble reports to resolve equipment or facility issues promptly.
- Perform administrative tasks through various methods as assigned.
- Load and unload materials manually or using mechanical devices such as lift gates, wheelbarrows, pallet jacks, or dollies.
- Operate diverse power tools and machinery including mowers, clippers, posthole diggers, blowers, weed eaters, power washers, and banding equipment.
- Use hand tools like shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, axes, and wrenches to upkeep facilities, clear debris, and maintain grounds.
- Transport and organize equipment, supplies, and furniture by hand or machinery.
- Excavate, backfill, or spread materials like sand and dirt to improve recreational areas such as parks and sports fields.
- Ensure cleanliness and serviceability of grounds and facilities, including trash collection, cleaning of park amenities, and restroom maintenance.
- Maintain inventory of tools and equipment ensuring they are in proper working order; perform minor equipment adjustments, repairs, painting, and carpentry tasks as needed.
- Assist in preparing excess property for disposal.
- Operate government-owned vehicles including forklifts, 7-ton stake trucks, and passenger vans.
- Serve as Department Hazardous Material Coordinator, Safety Representative, and Assistant Building/Energy Monitor.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Male candidates born after December 31, 1959, and aged 18 or older must certify Selective Service registration.
- Obtain and maintain National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI), with renewal every five years.
- Pass pre-employment medical examination.
- Hold or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Acquire necessary certifications within 60 days of hire: First Aid/CPR and Forklift Operator.
- Be available to work varied schedules including holidays, weekends, and evenings; capable of overtime and emergency duties.
- Use required personal protective equipment such as gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, and boots.
- Possess at least two years of experience in relevant trades demonstrating capability to perform the position's functions.
- Have knowledge of computer use, office procedures, and print production.
- Complete complex assignments involving multiple steps, following instructions and understanding diagrams.
- Maintain accurate records, compile data reports, and conduct research for information dissemination.
- Operate large government vehicles and forklifts safely.
- Manage inventory and identify equipment/material damage accurately.
- Use various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Communicate clearly in both oral and written forms.
